Entergy, Mazda and Newman Wachs Racing Team up for 2010

Nuclear Clean Air Energy Car on NASCAR-Owned GRAND-AM Rolex Series

Jackson, Miss. – Entergy and MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development announced that Newman Wachs Racing and the Nuclear Clean Air Energy car will race on the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series. The first race for the new team is March 6 at the Homestead Miami International Speedway in Florida.

The Nuclear Clean Air Energy car won the 2009 Atlantic Championship series and now moves up with Mazda sponsorship to the GRAND-AM Rolex Series that is owned and supported by NASCAR. The series, in its 10th year, races on some of the largest venues in the U.S. including the Daytona Speedway and Watkins Glen International in New York.

The Nuclear Clean Air Energy car carries sponsorship from Entergy, the second largest nuclear power fleet in the United States. They operate or provide management services for 12 nuclear reactors in 10 locations in the Southern, Northeastern and Midwestern regions. Entergy has stepped to the fore as an industry voice promoting nuclear as “green” to broad national audiences while using the sponsorship to assist in recruiting top-talent to the company.

Quotes:

John Herron, President, CEO and Chief Nuclear Officer for Entergy Nuclear:
“As our country develops energy strategies for the future, it is important to make sure that people understand how nuclear energy is critical to the mix.
By supporting a championship race team, the Nuclear Clean Air Energy initiative reaches new audiences and gives Entergy an opportunity to educate many others about nuclear energy.

We are proud to continue this initiative with the Newman Wachs race team, a great partner who understands how critical nuclear plants are to producing the electricity America needs.”

Eddie Wachs, owner of the Newman Wachs Race Team:

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Mazda in the 2010 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car season. I am even more pleased with the continued support from Entergy and the nuclear energy industry to take such an important message forward. From the beginning, it has always been important to me personally and professionally to have a valued message as part of our championship effort. The Nuclear Clean Air Energy initiative is most worthy and we thank Entergy for their support.”

Robert Davis, Senior Vice President, Product Development and Quality, Mazda North American Operations:

“Over the past 15 years Mazda has done what no other automaker had done before: create a ladder to assist up-and-coming racers progress through the ranks. Our commitment to driver development remains intact, and we are proud to work with a respected race veteran like Eddie Wachs.”

2010 marks the third year of the Entergy sponsorship of a Nuclear Clean Air Energy car with the Newman Wachs team. 18 year-old championship driver, John Michael Edwards, will race a Mazda RX-8 in the GT class.

The GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series was acquired by NASCAR Holdings in 2008 and operates now as one organization, fully integrated into the NASCAR framework. GRAND-AM is televised LIVE on SPEED television and features extremely competitive sports car racing on historic road and street circuits throughout North America.
